This page explains what happens when a customer asks to stop work, requests a refund review, completes a service, or reaches the end of a request’s retention period.
Use the secure request portal to identify what should stop and why. Submitting the request records it for human review. It does not by itself stop work, cancel an outside service, reverse a payment, or change a legal deadline.
Before work begins, an eligible cancellation normally leaves no service fee due, subject to disclosed outside costs. After work begins, ClearLegalLA reviews completed work, committed costs, duplicate or unauthorized charges, billing errors, delivered custom work, and any right required by law. A decision and any amount are recorded in the portal; payment processing is a separate controlled action.
A customer can open one-time Stripe Checkout only after accepting the current written scope and price. Work and deliverable release stay locked until a signed Stripe webhook confirms payment. Returning from Checkout, closing the payment page, or seeing a browser success message does not by itself mark a request paid.
Completed, declined, or withdrawn requests may be archived. Archiving closes new messages and uploads, but verified customers can continue downloading available work until permanent disposal occurs.
Closed unpaid or declined requests are normally eligible for disposal after 90 days. Paid or completed service records are normally eligible after 365 days. These are eligibility dates—not promises of automatic deletion on that exact day.
Customers should promptly download delivered files, receipts, scopes, and any record needed for a court, agency, property matter, or tax purpose. Permanent disposal cannot be undone.
The request can receive messages, records, scopes, and work product.
The service status is completed, declined, or withdrawn and a retention date is assigned.
New activity is closed while verified downloads and the retained record remain available.
Only after the date passes and no hold applies can the owner permanently erase the request with a separate typed confirmation.
A retention period may be extended when records are reasonably needed for a payment dispute, fraud or security investigation, legal demand, accounting obligation, or other lawful requirement. A hold blocks permanent disposal until it is removed. Only a minimal non-identifying disposition record remains after an eligible request is permanently erased.
